Qahwa: Stories with Syrians

The conflict in Syria has resulted in one of the largest humanitarian crises of our time. Millions of Syrians have been displaced from their homes, families have been torn apart, and the death toll continues to rise. The suffering on both sides of the conflict is incalculable. The stories we often hear on the news are heart wrenching.

Even if fighting were to stop tomorrow, it will take time for Syrian society to heal and rebuild. Food, however, remains one of the strongest unifying forces among Syrians. From Aleppo to Damascus, Syrians treasure their shared culinary heritage (with some friendly rivalry about who prepares the best kibbeh). The purpose of this project is to document and share stories about food from Syrians all over the world. Stay tuned.
